For first Friday this month, our gallery featured unique works by over 29 local artists and writers. The concept of the show was an idea that Angela Carter had over a year ago: to unite writing and visual arts. After proposing the idea to Danielle Campbell and naming the show, the idea was born. Angela and Danielle held a call for artists and were so proud of all of the work that was submitted over the course of two dates for entry. Following this, the (volunteer!) judging took place by four incredibly talented artists and writers. They spent hours reading every piece and using their experience to properly and accurately judge the art work itself. Almost all pieces were accepted to the show! Angela and Danielle were truly moved by the talents of these new artists! Below are the criteria and rules for submitting: 1. Write an original poem or short prose piece (any style/subject) 2. Use any medium to display/frame/decorate your words, and/or the space around them. 3. Beginners are encouraged to submit! There were people from every walk of life in art and writing at this show, and it could not have been more positive! We even had live music by Blake Cramer of Shenandoah Alley! The opening had an astounding amount of people from the public and those who were friends/family of the artists themselves. It was lovely to have so many come to see and celebrate art of every medium and the artists themselves! The majority of submissions were NEW artists! Here is a link to the top three winners: (who were featured in Worst Week Ever magazine) Worst Week Ever, Issue 13. Votes were placed by the audience and tallied during the opening. The Audience Choice Award went to a NEW, upcoming artist, C. James Dawson with his piece titled Ashes.
